Sprint Buys Big Stake In Jay Z’s Tidal
A few days ago, we shared a report from a Norwegian newspaper that said Tidal was inflating its numbers to make it look like it had more subscribers than it does.
Hov hasn’t commented on that report yet, probably because he was too busy putting the finishing touches on his latest business deal.
According to Billboard, Sprint has purchased a 33 percent stake in Tidal, giving all of its 45 million customers instant and unlimited access to the site. Sprint reportedly paid $200 million in the deal, and their CEO Marcelo Claure had some positive words for the Brooklyn rapper.
“Jay saw not only a business need but a cultural one and put his heart and grit into building Tidal into a world class music streaming platform that is unrivaled in quality or content,” said Claure..
Hov also released a statement.
“Sprint shares our view of revolutionizing the creative industry to allow artists to connect directly with their fans and reach their fullest, shared potential,” he said in a press release. “Claure understood our goal right away, and together we are excited to bring Sprint’s 45 million customers an unmatched entertainment experience.”
Those who already had a Tidal subscription before the deal won’t be affected at all.
