Dana White Has Changed His Tune On Mayweather-McGregor
But the UFC boss has had a change of heart. Here’s what he had to say in a recent interview with ESPN.
“I do think it’s going to happen,” White said. “I think it’s going to be a tough deal, because, obviously, there are a lot of egos involved in this deal and a lot of people, so that always make it tougher.
“[But] on the flip side, there’s so much money involved, I just don’t see how it doesn’t happen.”
White’s contractual relationship with Conor McGregor is such that he could probably prevent the fight from happening. One of the reasons he might want to do that is out of fear that Mayweather would embarrass McGregor — and the UFC.
But Dana doesn’t think that’s going to happen. Even though a Money-McGregor fight would be under boxing rules.
“A lot of things make this fight intriguing,” White said. “Conor McGregor is huge. He’s in the prime of his career. Floyd is 40. Floyd has always had problems with southpaws; Conor is a southpaw, and Conor hits hard. When he hits people, they go. Floyd is definitely not knocking him out. That’s for sure.
“I’m not saying Conor would win this boxing match, but it sure makes it interesting.”
The latest rumor has Mayweather and McGregor boxing on June 10 in Las Vegas with a purse of $100 million each.
